Spring (March to May): Cherry Blossom

Spring is synonymous with cherry blossoms in Japan. From late March to early April, the entire country turns pink as sakura trees bloom.

Join locals in hanami (flower viewing) picnics under the cherry blossoms, and don’t miss night-time illuminations that make the blossoms glow beautifully.

Cherry Blossom Viewing(Hanami)

What Is Hanami

Hanami (花見) is a traditional Japanese practice of enjoying the beauty of flowers, particularly cherry blossoms (sakura).

The term “hanami” literally means “flower viewing.” in Japanese. This tradition has been celebrated in Japan for centuries and is deeply embedded in the country’s culture.

Meguro River / Nakameguro

The area around Meguro River is popular for both daytime and nighttime cherry blossom viewing.

In the evening, the trees are illuminated, making the scene even more magical.

The riverside is also lined with trendy cafes, restaurants, and shops, allowing visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll while taking in the beauty of the blossoms.

Sumida Park / Sky Tree

Sumida Park is a classic hanami destination in Tokyo, stretching along both sides of the Sumida River, with breathtaking views of over 1,000 cherry trees.

This park is particularly famous for its stunning backdrop of the iconic Tokyo Skytree, making it a popular spot for photographers and those looking to capture the perfect hanami moment.

During the cherry blossom season, Sumida Park comes alive with visitors who gather to enjoy picnics under the blossoming trees.

Flower Garden

Hitachi Seaside Park

Hitachi Seaside Park faces onto the Kashimanada area of the Ibaraki coast.

The park is situated on sand dunes formed through a combination of silt from the Kuji River and north-easterly winds. Warm and cold currents mingle in the Pacific Ocean off the Ibaraki Coast, allowing both northern and southern climate plants to flourish within in the park.

As well as stunning seasonal flowers throughout the year, Hitachi Seaside Park is also home to the Pleasure Garden amusement park, 8 hectares of grassland, a forest adventure playground and BBQ area.
