In Japan, the quality of chain restaurants is outstanding. Japan is world-famous for the quality of its affordable and delicious food, and there are countless budget-friendly eateries across the country. But with so many options, it can be overwhelming to decide where to go.
To help you navigate, I’ll introduce some popular chain restaurants. Some may think chain restaurants are less special or want to avoid them, but Japanese chains are often committed to serving tasty food quickly and affordably. They’re great for those looking to save on meals for the day or simply enjoy a convenient dining experience.
Convenience stores in Japan offer a wide variety of delicious snacks and bento meals. For more details, click here.
Noodle
There are four main types of noodles in Japan. The first is ramen, which is popular worldwide. The broth can be made from various ingredients such as fish or pork, offering a wide range of flavors. The second is udon, which is a simple and affordable dish popular in Japan. It’s often eaten when feeling unwell because it’s easy to digest. The third is soba, made from buckwheat flour. It has a slightly distinct flavor that may not be for everyone, but many people enjoy adding wasabi to it, so give it a try! Finally, there’s pasta. While many might associate pasta with Italian cuisine, Japanese pasta is a bit different. In Japan, there’s a unique dish called “Napolitan,” which is pasta tossed with ketchup. Be sure to try this distinctive version of pasta!
Marugame Seimen – 1st recommended chain restaurant
This is the chain restaurant that is expanding in Japan.
Many Japanese love this restaurant because it is reasonable and delicious.
when I ate Udon in Canada, the price was around $10.
On the other hand, Marugame Seimen’s Udon is around $4 which is cheaper than the other udon restaurant in Japan.

Ichiran
Ichiran is a world-renowned ramen shop that many of you may already know. With locations around the globe, it’s well-recognized as one of Japan’s famous chain restaurants. Even those who are well-versed in ramen often find themselves drawn to Ichiran, as it stands out for its delicious offerings among chain restaurants. While the prices are a bit higher, it’s definitely worth a visit!
Izakaya
Torikizoku
An izakaya is similar to a pub in Japan. They are well-known for being affordable, especially when it comes to alcohol. Many izakayas offer all-you-can-drink options, where you can drink as much as you want within a set time. This service is also quite affordable, with some places offering it for around 1,000 yen.
Torikizoku is a beloved and accessible Japanese pub option for those looking to enjoy delicious yakitori and drinks without breaking the bank.
Its consistent quality, affordable pricing , and welcoming atmosphere make it a staple in the Japanese izakaya scene.
For example, you can drink Japanese beer only for $2. And the meals are also reasonable.
Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Torikizoku offers a taste of Japan’s pub culture in a fun and budget-friendly way.

Seafood
Many people visit Japan specifically for seafood, and for good reason. Japanese seafood is incredibly fresh and affordable. Tempura and sushi are especially popular dishes. There are two types of sushi: conveyor-belt sushi (kaiten-zushi) and traditional sushi. Traditional sushi is a bit more expensive, but if you go to a good place, the quality is excellent. Conveyor-belt sushi, which can only be found in Japan, is also a unique experience, so be sure to try it!
Hama Sushi – Conveyor-belt Sushi
Two of the most well-known conveyor-belt sushi chains are Sushiro and Kura Sushi. Both offer high-quality and delicious sushi. However, my personal recommendation is Hama Sushi. Compared to other conveyor-belt sushi places, Hama Sushi has a wider variety of sushi options, making it a great choice for those looking to try something new and exciting!
Tachizushi Yoko Cho – 立ち寿司横丁
Unlike conveyor belt sushi restaurants such as Sushiro, this sushi restaurant doesn’t rotate the sushi.
However, the prices are still affordable, and the quality is high, making it a great recommendation for anyone looking to enjoy sushi in Tokyo
When I was in Tokyo, I used to go this restaurant several times.

Others
Japan has many different chain restaurants, and even some international chains offer unique menus that you won’t find overseas. For example, McDonald’s in Japan serves items like the Ebi Filet-O, Fish Filet-O, and Teriyaki Chicken Burger, which are not available in other countries. The Fish Filet-O has a soft, flavorful filling and is absolutely delicious. The Teriyaki Chicken Burger is made with a sweet soy sauce, adding a rich taste. All of these items are really tasty, so be sure to look for the ones that are exclusive to Japan!
Sukiya
Sukiya is a popular fast-food chain in Japan, known primarily for its beef bowls (gyudon).
The chain is recognized for its quick service and affordable prices, offering simple yet tasty meals.
Here is the link of this restaurant.
For example, this gyudon price is $4.
Gyoza no Osho
In Japan, there is a style of Chinese cuisine that is different from traditional Chinese cooking. Japanese-style Chinese food is adjusted to suit Japanese tastes, and it tends to be milder, without the strong spices often found in Chinese cuisine. It’s easy to eat and quite flavorful. Be sure to try this unique version of Chinese food!
What sets Gyoza no Ohsho apart is not just the quality of the food, but the incredible value it offers.
Whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch or enjoying a late-night meal, you can expect generous portions at prices that won’t strain your wallet and also they offer some alcohol reasonably.
Additionally, the casual, welcoming atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to enjoy a satisfying meal with friends or family.
